Philippine festivals are best celebrated with… food. In line with the city fiesta, Cagayan de Oro has been hosting “Kumbira” which is the biggest culinary event in Mindanao.
Just like previous years, Kumbira 2015 is a three day event of live cooking contests, demonstrations and food exhibits. It started last Wednesday and will end today with participants coming from different schools and establishments in Mindanao. There are 20 judges this year who are certified master chefs. To name a few, this year they have Norbert Gandler – The Executive Director for Culinary Education at International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management; Myrna Segismundo – Managing Director of multi-awarded Restaurant9501, the exclusive dining restaurant of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation; Sandy Daza – Chef and Restaurateur who owns Wooden Spoon Filipino Restaurant in Manila; and Stefan Langenhan – the executive chief of Aubergine, a fine dining restaurant in Bonifacio Global City.
I just can’t let this annual event pass so I squeezed my busy schedule yesterday just to see the food displays and exhibitions. Unfortunately, I missed the cooking shows and demos but I still got the chance to take photos of the delightful and enticing wide display of savouries and sweets. So, displayed on your screen are some of the tempting foods of Kumbira 2015. Enjoy!
