The search is on for the prettiest, the most talented and the smartest young lad in town… The Barangay Gwapo 2015!
This annual male pageant has been one of the most watched activities of the Kagay-an Festival since 2011 brought to us by ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao. And last Sunday, July 12, the ten official candidates were finally revealed to the public and the event was made livelier by Pamahaw Espesyal’s Jam Bantigue and TV Patrol Northern Mindanao Star Patroller Greanne Mendoza. And here are some of the most interesting qualities of this year’s gwapos.
Candidate number one is Eric Clint Basalo. He is no longer new to male pageants. In fact, he won Ginoong Iligan in 2011. This guy is very athletic which is clearly shown by his six packs.
John Gregory Marzon is candidate number two. He is 19 years old and currently studying at Xavier University. Greg as his friends call him plays instruments like drums.
Gwapong Boy Next Door candidate number three is Abdul Rashid Magarang. Just like the first winner of Barangay Gwapo, Abdul Rashid has a Maranao blood oozing with good looks and great confidence. He loves dancing, singing and hosting. Well, he is truly someone that his school Mindanao State University Main Campus can truly be proud of.
The next contestant has already been to a national pageant. Jon Karlo Dimarucut represented Mindanao in this year’s Mr. Olive-C Campus Model held at the Skydome, SM North Edsa. A marine graduate from Capitol University, Jon Karlo loves sports. He is into basketball, badminton and tennis.
The crowd went wild when candidate number five, Joseph E. Landiza finally appeared on stage. This Mario Maurer look-a-like hails from Lantapan, Bukidnon. He decided to join to prove that the people from his province have what it takes to be the next Barangay Gwapo.
Donelle Jahziel Gonzales, candidate number six is the Pilyong Gwapo from Barangay Tubod, Iligan City. This guy loves frisbee and is also good at dancing.
The seventh candidate is Niccho R. Nunez. Guess what? He is a licensed chemist. When asked why he joined this pageant, he wittingly said that Barangay Gwapo would enable him to actively participate in community wide activities.
Candidate number eight is Luis G. Banaag III. After the horrible accident that he met last year that destroyed his face, he is now perfectly fine. Joining Barangay Gwapo is his way of showing to the world that he is now ready to face new challenges and opportunities in life.
Earl Donne Lagudas is the ninth candidate. Interestingly enough, this guy has his own business which is a Koi Sanctuary.
I heard screams when candidate number 10 went on stage. Ronnel Vincent Aragones is the typical ‘chinito’ guy that can tickle every girl’s heart. He is 19 years old and proudly hails from Barangay Upper Carmen.
There you go girls, the ten official contestants of Barangay Gwapo 2015.
The “Gabi ng mga Gwapo” or the pageant night will be on August 24 at Limketkai Atrium. See you there Kapamilyas.
