This was Laguindingan Airport taken last Saturday, January 17. It was on this day that Pope Francis had his historical visit in Tacloban City and Palo, Leyte while the entire Eastern Visayas was already on public storm warning signal number 2 due to Tropical Storm Amang.
It seems that Laguindingan Airport had a normal operation that day despite the approaching storm. All the three major airlines (Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air and Air Asia) were able to land as the airport is now equipped with navigational aids. This is totally far from the scenario last year when thousands of passengers were stranded due to flight cancellations due to bad weather condition. The airplanes were not able to land because the airport had no precision instruments that time and pilots were just using visual flight rules.
