TG Year End Review: CDO’s Top Five New Food Establishments in 2014

Food business continues to escalate in Cagayan de Oro. From shrimps in a bag to luxurious buffet experience, year 2014 has brought more excitements to Kagay-anon foodies.

Here are the 2014 top five new food establishments in The City of Golden Friendship in random order.

Circa 1850

Unpretentious dining… this is what Circa 1850 is all about. A sister restaurant of Sentro 1850, Circa is best known for their large servings. My personal favorite is their brined pork chop that is two inches thick and can serve up to three people. The meat is chewable and juicy. The flavor is just light but tasty.

Kave Restaurant

Limketkai Luxe Hotel’s Kave has brought CDO’s buffet experience to a whole new level. I have tried their Mexican dinner buffet and I must say that the execution and the selection of foods are already comparable to international hotels that I have tried. Plus, I heard lots of positive feedbacks about their breakfast buffet and it is definitely in my bucket list for 2015.

Another international brand in the food industry has invaded CDO’s soil. BonChon has made Kagay-anons fried chicken crunchier and more flavorful. After I tasted their spicy chicken, I must agree that they have given me another reason to get excited about fast food chain again.

How can I forget Alavar’s? They have served me the best tasting crab I have ever tried. That sweetness and richness of crab’s meat oozing with fats is overlaid with thick and creamy Alavar’s sauce. It was love at first bite that going uphill to Buena Oro is all worth it.

Redtail Shrimps and More

Year 2014 is a battle of the shrimps in CDO. Redtail Shrimps and More opened last summer and introduced the concept “shrimps in a bag” and messy eating. The rule is to eat these seafoods with bare hands, the messier the better and yummier. No doubt that this restaurant is always packed with diners. In 2014 alone, they have already opened two branches in the city.

Feng shui experts say that the the year of the Wood Sheep is a good time to invest in the “fire” industry such as food and restaurants. So, join us as we discover more food adventures and witness more restaurant openings in Cagayan de Oro in 2015.
