I ended my manic working days last week with a movie treat from Liceo de Cagayan University. It was the culmination of the 17th edition of Cine Europa Film Festival held last Friday night (November 14) at Rodelsa Hall.
The event which started with a cocktail party was well attended by invited guests from the city government led by Mayor Oscar S. Moreno, representatives from different private institutions like Primavera Residences, members of the press and the LDCU community. Dr. Rafaelita Pelaez Golez, the chairman of the board of Liceo de Cagayan University; Dr. Mariano M. Lerin, the university president; and Mr. Lubomir Frebort, the EU delegation to the Philippines were also present.
A special screening was then held which showed a German film entitled “Sherbenpark”or Broken Glass. It is a story of Sascha, a teenage girl who grew up with so much hatred after she witnessed her mother murdered by her stepfather Vadim.
According to Mr. Frebort, the German film was selected for the culmination night out of the twenty-one films from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland to highlight the partnership of LDCU and Goethe Institut of Germany. He added that this year’s film fest is extra special because aside from Manila and Cagayan de Oro, the films are also shown in other key cities namely Iloilo, Davao, Tacloban, Zamboanga, Cebu and Baguio.
