CINEMAGIS 7 calls for entries

The Xavier University, Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts (XCCA), National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Xavier Science Foundation present the 7th edition of CineMagis – NorthMin Digital Short Film Festival.

CineMagis is the region’s first short film festival which aims at encouraging our film making enthusiasts to address and reflect on Mindanao experiences, voices, aspirations, and issues. Filmmakers are also encouraged to draw inspirations from any local lore or any pressing realities that capture the essence of Magis – a take on doing more, leaping the extra mile, or to have more care for others, doing better things for the greater glory of God through renewal of the self.

CineMagis aims at recognizing and strengthening the skills of our filmmakers to come up with significant body of works that will lead them to national recognitions and contribute to the rising Mindanao Film Industry.

Over the years, CineMagis has produced standout regional filmmakers with the passion to tell stories – Shaun Uy, Jasmin Limas, Joe Bacus, Jenriel Lagat, Ray Anthony Lao, Eastine Charles Taneo, Tzaddi Esguerra, Glenmark Doromal, and many others.

This year, CineMagis suggests the following themes: Inner Peace, Cultural Solidarity, Human Rights, Gender and Development, Harmony with the Environment, Cultural Understanding and Awareness and Life’s Funny and subtle contradictions.

The author and curator of CINEMAGIS, and XCCA director, Hobart P. Savior says “we hope to strengthen the film making literacy for beyond the skill, a ‘filmic’ quality lies on the substance that a filmmaker wishes to assert. We hope to see, smell, hear and even taste what we our voices in our locale, let’s say what our Cagayan de Oro offers to tell or of Northern Mindanao’s triumphs of life, experience and even love… I mean, going deeply through our roots, even a very simple narrative of an experience that captures some aspects of truth in our locale’s milieu is a mark of deep understanding of what is lived and internalized would make a great assertion through film”.

CineMagis has two regular competitive categories – Student and Professional. Students who are currently enrolled in any school or university in Northern Mindanao are encouraged to submit their film entries together with the filmmaker’s resume or bio data with two 2×2 ID pictures; 1 page synopsis of the film; certification from any authority or professor who attests the originality and filled out application/entry form.

In the Professional Category, the filmmakers must be residents of Northern Mindanao and may submit their entries together with their resume or bio data with two 2×2 ID pictures; 1 page synopsis of the film; certification from any authority or professor who attests the originality and filled out application/entry form.
