Throwback Thursday: Cagayan de Oro…Three Years Ago

So much has changed in the City of Golden Friendship. Here are some memorable shots of Cagayan de Oro taken in 2011 by Vincent Tom Udasco.

Gaston Park on July 11, 2011: The famed circular landmark of Cagayan de Oro was covered with grass before. Today, these greens are replaced with concrete tiles. Some people find the old Gaston Park more relaxing and cooler than the way it is today.

Limketkai Center on June 7, 2011: Those were the days when McDonald’s Limketkai was still on its vintage look. I always had that nostalgia every time I went inside McDonald’s Limketkai. Its looks was exactly the same when it opened in 1992. I was still seven or eight years old then.

That under construction building is Limketkai Luxe Hotel. It’s the new favorite spot for parties and events in the city.

Centrio Mall in August 6, 2011: What used to be an empty grass land is Cagayan de Oro’s premier shopping mall today. Centrio Mall’s lot was occupied by Suzuki showroom and at its back is a large portion of grasses and Acacia trees. It was also a favorite spot of carnival operators during fiesta. In this shot, Centrio Mall was already under construction.

September 7, 2011: The Asia’s Sunniest at Lumbia Airport. Though we had a smaller and laid back airport at Lumbia but it was more functional. It had the precision instruments that can accommodate night flights. There were no flight cancellations back then except on extreme weather conditions or aircraft maintenance.

Divisoria on July 20, 2011: There was no Hapsay Dalan back then. Double parking was a major headache. There were no yellow boxes and pedestrian lanes. Jeepney drivers just picked or dropped passengers anywhere, even in the middle of the road.
