Liceo’s bet wins ABS-CBN NorMin newscasting tilt

Bonne Zalzos, an AB Mass Communications student of Liceo de Cagayan University emerged as the champion in the first ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao newscasting competition held yesterday, February 23 at the Activity Center, Centrio Mall. The second place went to Angielyn Siwagan (MUST) who also won the best in news reporting award , third is Hamilcar Chanjueco (XU), 4th is Deonie Balingan (Lourdes College), 5th is Trevi Espinosa (COC), and sixth place was awarded to Destine Lanzaderas (Pilgrim Christian College).

There were four rounds in the competition. The contestants were required to report in English, Tagalog and Visayan or Cebuano for the first, second and third rounds, respectively. During the fourth and final round, they were asked to annotate a breaking news in Cebuano.

A promising career at ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao awaits this year’s winner Bonne Zalzos. Many famous national news anchors and reporters in the Kapamilya Network started in regional stations such as Alvin Elchico who started with ABS-CBN Bacolod.
