Independent filmmakers all over the country will gather here in Cagayan de Oro for the Cinema Rehiyon 2014. They will showcase their latest films in this grand event which will take place on February 18-22.
This is the second time that Mindanao has hosted the event after it was held in Davao City last 2011. There will be 93 films that will be shown, 14 of which are full length, that is one hour and thirty minutes to two hours movies.
What is so interesting about this year’s Cinema Rehiyon is that entrance requirements from moviegoers are goods worth not less than P20 preferably toothbrush and tooth paste, bath soap, and sanitary napkins. All of these goods will be donated to super Typhoon Yolanda victims in the Visayas.
Cinema Rehiyon is one of the flagship programs of the Philippine Arts Festival (PAF), a subcommission of National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The event is held in February in line of the National Arts Month (NAM). The festival seeks to educate the Filipino audience on films that exist outside of the mainstream cinema which are made by independent film makers in the country. It also inspires film enthusiasts to showcase what they have to the viewing public.
