TG Year End Review: Top 10 Events in 2013

Cagayan de Oro has been enjoying a wonderful 2013 full of colorful and special events. Let’s take a look at some of the major highlights:

Miss Cagayan de Oro 2013

One of the highlights of Higala-ay Kagay-an Festival 2013 was the Miss Cagayan de Oro 2013, held last August 24, 2013. The boisterous celebration of Kagay-anon beauties produced Amadea Lucia Piatti, who took home the crown as 2013’s Miss Cagayan de Oro, Kristia Alde as Miss Tourism, Mary Mikaela Montalban as 1st runner up, Keena Alyssa Prell Dacubor is 2nd runner up, and 3rd runner up is Mary Joy Obsioma. JCI Bai Lawanen Cagayan de Oro organized the event at Limketkai Atrium, which was hosted by GMA Kapuso’s  Mr. Gabby Eigenmann and Ms. Anna Maris Igpit, and serenaded by Kapamilya Matteo Guidicelli, and attended by the city officials headed by Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Higalas Parade

In a new twist to the Kagay-an Festival parades, Higalas (Friends) introduced giant icons of religious, cultural, and important figures in homage to the city’s glorious past and rich heritage. The parade consists of the Band/Drum and Lyre, Military Civic, Organizations parade, interlaced with the Icons. The parade started at Rodelsa Circle, pausing at the Kiosko Kagawasan for the presentation, then ended at the Limketkai East Canopy, in front of the East Concourse.
Higalas Parade was held the day before the feast of San Agustin (Aug. 27), while the Higalas were brought to Duaw Park for the Fluvial Parade the next day.

Seda in the City

A night to remember. From the socialites to the media, almost all notable Kagayanon faces from different entities graced the party last June 15, 2013 held at the newest attraction in Cagayan de Oro, the Seda Hotel. Dubbed as “Seda in the City,” it is the hotel’s way of opening doors to the Kagay-anon community.

Pagbantog Kagay-an

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV-AIDS) as cases in the city and in Northern Mindanao have reportedly been increasing these past years. Pagbantog Kagayan, Pagbantog HIV, spearheaded by Atty. Sam Tan, organized a set of events in line with the World Aids Day, and to promote awareness to Kagay-anons on what HIV-AIDS is.  To name a few, there was forum at the 2nd level of Limketkai Mall, the first ever HIV March in Cagayan de Oro, and a festival of music and monologues at Limketkai Rotunda.

Limketkai Preopening VIP Nights and Media Launches

The Shopwise VIP Night took place at Limketkai East Annex. The big wigs of Rustan’s Supercenter led by Bienvenido Donnie Tantoco and Limketkai Executives like Albino Limketkai and Alfonso Lim were present. Also, two days before the grand opening of Krispy Kreme Limketkai, a media launch and a VIP Night was held separately, attended by Limketkai Executives and Krispy Kreme Philippines nationwide heads.

Launching of Mercato de Oro

Mercato de Oro is the first business venture of Mercato Centrale in the south. Mercato Centrale is known as a food and lifestyle market in Manila, mostly in Ayala Malls. It is not only a dining and entertainment district but a launch pad for start up entrepreneurs.

Black Nazarene Procession

Among all religious events and events in Cagayan de Oro in general, it’s difficult to pass up the Black Nazarene procession, which happened last January 9, 2013. Although covered with drizzle and cloudy skies, devotees from all over Mindanao flocked in the city to brave the thick crowds following the revered image of Christ across the city.

The Loop Launch

The Vista Land in partnership with Limketkai has launched The Loop, a 25 storey twin tower condominium which will be built within Limketkai Center. This is the first high-rise residential condominium of Vista Land outside Metro Manila. The grand launching was held last Saturday, July 27 at the Limketkai Atrium and was graced by former Senator Manuel “Manny” Villar, the founder of Vista Land and Lifescapes, Inc., and the executives of Limketkai Center led by its CEO and President Mr. Alfonso Lim.

Aspira Launch

Avida Towers Aspira, Avida’s second project in Cagayan de Oro, was formally launched November 15, 2013.  The event was hosted by Ms. Nicole Abas, and attended by guests from the city’s real estate industry, current and prospect clients and their agents.
