People from Baungon, Bukidnon are rejoicing as construction has started for the new Cabula Bridge. The WWII-era bridge has been destroyed by TS Sendong in 2011 and people have since been crossing the Cagayan-Baungon boundary through hanging bridge, while vehicles are turning around through Libona or Pualas routes. It has since hampered both agricultural and tourism activities in the area, and the people are glad at these developments.
The new bridge will rise some 10 meters from the old bridge, and will be a 2-lane bridge, an upgrade from the previous 1 lane bridge. It will follow the same path to minimize construction costs.
This is the spot where the first foundation will rise.
Heavy equipment are seen all around the construction site.
The hanging bridge has been featured in ABS-CBN’s 2012 Christmas Station ID. This is the closest path connecting Baungon to CDO.
The winding , descending road from the highway will be concreted towards the new bridge. A spillway can be found opposite the bridge construction site. According to a municipal representative, this is a temporary path being built by a private contractor for heavy equipment, and revealed that the remaining rough road across Brgy. Nicdao will be cemented to connect to the exisiting concrete road at Kamatayan road, part of Brgy. Liboran. National and Municipal units will then be working together to complete the concreting from Liboran towards Brgy. Imbatug, completing the concrete connection from Cagayan de Oro to Baungon’s main town. This is big news for Baungonons.
The bridge is said to be completed on the 4th quarter of 2014, while road concreting will be finished on the 3rd quarter of 2014.
