The local government unit of Cagayan de Oro is one of the firsts to use Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) mapping technology to detect the flood hazards in the city. Our very own Engr. Elpidio M. Paras spoke in the University of the Philippines’ Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (UP DREAM) Program Report to the Stakeholders held yesterday, October 17 at the UP National Engineering Center. According to him, Cagayan de Oro was better prepared when typhoon Pablo hit the city last year because the LGU was warned ahead of the possible extent of flooding through the LiDAR technology.
