Kagay-an Festival 2013 List of Activities UPDATED Aug 9 12PM

This year’s festivities is entitled “Higala-ay: Kagay-an Festival 2013” with the theme “Duyog sa dungog, Kuyog sa Kusog”. Here are the partial complete list of activities for the August Festivities:


 

 

 

KUMBIRA

August 14 -16, 2013
Venue: Limketkai Mall Atrium

Now on its 17th year, the Kumbira is considered the country’s longest running culinary show that focuses on showcasing the best and latest culinary creations in the region as well as highlighting local brands and products. This year, Kumbira has for its theme: “Negosyo Kulinarya – Building Home-grown Brands”. This three-day event consisting of exhibits, seminars, and competitions will be participated in by restaurants, hotels, resorts, students, professional chefs, and food enthusiasts from all over the country.

GARDEN SHOW

August 15, 2013 to August 31, 2013
Venue: Duaw Kagay-an Park

The Garden Show will be held in the historic Duaw Kagay-an Park and will feature an exhibition of garden plants and landscaping artistry from local gardeners and plant enthusiasts. Visitors will be treated to a cornucopia of garden plants and flowers and can buy those which interest them.

PBA LEGENDS

August 17,2013 6:00 PM
Venue: Xavier University Gym

Called “PBA Legends Live in Cagayan de Oro”, this event will treat basketball loving folks to a visit by ten of the PBA Legends led by Vince Hizon where they will play an exhibition game with a mix of Team CDO and the Xavier University Team. The exhibition game is for the benefit of the Xavier University Scholarship Fund.

KAGAY-AN FESTIVAL MARATHON

AUGUST 18, 2013 (Sunday) 3:00 AM
Venue: Start/Finish – Centrio Mall

Aiming to make the City of Golden Friendship the country’s next top running destination, Kagay-an Festival Run is again set to hit with a 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km run. All finishers will receive medals and certificates.

COWBOY FESTIVAL NATIONAL HORSE SHOW AND COMPETITION

August 23 – 25, 2013
Venue: SM Grounds

A western cowboy style atmosphere will pervade the Cowboy Festival where visitors enjoy a spectacle of horsemen events including Oval Race, Obstacle Race, and Barrel Race which will be participated by horse enthusiasts from all levels of expertise from all over the country. Young and old are sure to enjoy this experience as there will also be games they can join and win prizes, not to mention the food and variety of products on sale.

KAHIMUNAN REGIONAL TRADE FAIR

August 24 – 28, 2013
Venue: SM City

Locally-made products of Cagayan de Oro and the region will be displayed and sold from August 24 – 28, 2013. The trade fair will be highlighted with a special setting of the One-Town, One-Product (OTOP) of the different cities, municipalities, and provinces of Region 10. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will spearhead the event together with various local producers.

 

MISS CAGAYAN DE ORO 2013 CORONATION NIGHT

AUGUST 24, 2013 (Saturday) 7:00 PM
Venue: Limketkai Center Atrium

The pageant lives up to Its tradition of searching for young women with beauty, wit, and charm, to be Cagayan de Oro’s Ambassador of Goodwill. The search involves various activities such as the Swimsuit Competition, the Talent Competition at 4:00 pm, August 10 In SM Cagayan de Oro, and the Evening Gown Competition at 6:00 pm, August 2 at the Centrio Mall Activity Center. The Coronation Night is at 7:00 pm on August 24 in the Limketkai Atrium.

 

KAGAY-AN PYRO FESTIVAL

AUGUST 25, 2013 (Sunday) 7:00 PM
Venue: SM CITY

The first ever fireworks competition In the city was held on August 29, 2009 In partnership with the City Government, Promote CDO Foundation, Inc. Pueblo de Oro and ABS-CBN with seven participants which were all fireworks manufacturers from Dumaguete City, Cebu City, Manila, Bulacan, Iligan City, and Cagayan de Oro City. This fireworks spectacle made history after it gathered an estimated crowd of over 200,000 and, thus, was dubbed as the biggest crowd ever in a single event in the city.

This year, SM City Cagayan de Oro will once again partner with the City Government, Pueblo de Oro and ABS- CBN fOr another Pyro Festival. It will be a grander and bigger fireworks competition on August 25, 2013 as a prelude to the City’s fiesta celebration.

 

PE RHYTHMIC DANCE COMPETITION

AUGUST 26,2013 (Monday) 7:00 AM
Venue: Pelaez Sports Center

The PE Rhythmic Dance Competition is a special dance showcase and field demonstration participated in by Physical Education (PE) students from different schools of Cagayan de Oro City. This year, three elementary and five secondary public schools will join in the competition with no less than 800 pupils per school.

 

HIGALAS: PARADE OF CAGAYAN DE ORO ICONS

AUGUST 27,2013 (Tuesday)

This year’s Parade of Cagayan de Oro Icons will fuse the usual city fiesta parade and the street dancing into one meaningful milestone that will have greater impact, broader participation, and healthy sustainability.

This fiesta highlight will be a parade of HIGALAS featuring Cagayan de Oro icons. Culled from the exciting dynamics of our history and from the complexity of our contemporary life, these HIGALAS will be accompanied by contingents from schools and barangays which will offer performances that give a sense of who or what these icons are, or what they stand for. At the end of the parade, there will be a menu of performances that will bring to life the significance of these icons.

 

RELIGIOUS PROCESSIONS

Street Procession:
August 28,2013 (Wednesday)
Start: 4:00 AM, Fernandez St.
Finish: 7:00 AM, St. Augustine Cathedral

Fluvial Procession:
August 28,2013 (Wednesday)
Start: 1:00 PM, Macabalan
Finish: 3:00 PM, Duaw Kagay-an Park

Processions will mark the feast of St. Augustine on August 28. In the early morning of the Feast Day of St. Augustine, a procession around the city will be held. It will be attended by residents from Barangays 1 to 20, schools and religious groups. The procession .will culminate in a mass at the Saint Augustine Cathedral.

In the afternoon, there will be a fluvial procession honoring the city’s patrtm saint. Decorated boats and rafts with images of St. Augustine, his mother – Sta. Monica, Birhen sa Kota, and the other patron saints of the 80 barangays of the city, will go up Cagayan River. The procession will end with a mass at the St. Augustine Cathedral.

The fluvial procession is the community’s effort to continually bless the river as well as promote the endeavors of the stakeholders In the preservation of Cagayan River.
