What do people say about night cafe’s suspension?

After Mayor Oscar S. Moreno released Executive Order no. 001-2013 that temporarily suspends the operation of night cafe, Kagayanons and even people from other towns and provinces have expressed their opinion of this major change in the City of Golden Friendship. Here are some of the reactions that we got from the social networking site Facebook.

I kinda favor the evident changes in the city but I really hope that night cafe will be back. It’s the only time I get to buy cheap clothes and at the same time, I could stroll around DV because there are various stalls to choose from. It’s kinda “mingaw.” Night cafe really warms the city eh just for two days. I hope they’d bring it back.

Why take out night cafe for good.?Maybe the city officials can allow it even once a month….. I think it is part of CDO’s attraction now since people from neighboring cities and town come for the sole purpose of the night cafe.

Im from cebu and have relatives from cdo. i frequent the city and i love the city. it always reminds me of my summers when i go there. the night cafe was abuzz to me. i always get to buy something from it when im in cdo. i will never forget the levis jeans and board shorts sprawled in that place. as for me, as a non-cdo person, i think its best to bring back the cafe in this place. what the government needs to do is enforce the law. strict rules should be applied. violators will be apprehended and fined big time. designate portalets in every corner. instill discipline onto the people. make security visible. its not that hard to implement and follow. its already an attraction and im sure the govt should allocate a budget for this.

Nganu gud dili ta ma disiplina sa ato lugar? kung naa bitaw ta sa lain nasod mu sunod man ta sa ila balaod kay hadlok ta maka sala. ing ana sad unta ta dri. ENFORCE THE LAW.
— Carl Francis Conanan

In the first place, naay Balaod nga angay sundon sa tanan, mapobre man o sapian. Let me cut it short, Ayaw supaka ang balaod!

. . . daghan na wad an ug livelihood. hapsay ang dalan agian sa cars sa mga datu. ang mga naningkamot ma buhi unsa man ang plano sa city sa ilaha. can somebody explain?
— Rome Frias

Disiplina ang kulang sa cagayan.. Ug aminon nako apil pud ko ana.. So ok ra sa akoa  disiplinahon tas mayor aron pud mahapsay tang tanan..

— Shann David

Kung basahon nato ang ordinansa gibuhat para sa nyt cafe… klaro kaayo… vendors have no ryt to do business on the center of the road, but they are given privilege time to sell on local road… but dv soria roads are national roads… technically it was started against the law… and laws are laws… lets just wait for the place for nytcafe… our mayor is not stupid..

Mao ni ang nahitabo Kun way klaro nga Plano. The new administration had 30 days prior to its assumption of power. If it has foresight, this confrontation could have been prevented by planning ahead. The intention to clear out Divisoria is laudable but the manner of implementing the intention is unfair. Is the current administration in a hurry to remove the last vestiges of the Emano administration without due process?
The stakeholders affected are also Cagayan de Oro residents . While one admits these people do not have a right to demand and continue the night cafe, at the very least they have REASONABLE EXPECTATION to be properly consulted, heard, and relocated before the activity was unilaterally stopped after years of doing it. Personally I am not too keen on the night cafe BUT I do not subscribe to the manner with which the affected people have been pushed aside…THEY ARE PEOPLE TOO and I bet not all of them were Emano supporters.

For us to know the reason why Mayor Moreno decided to suspend the night cafe, here is a part of  EO 001-2013: “Now, therefore, I, Oscar S. Moreno, by virtue of the powers vested in me as Mayor of the City of Cagayan de Oro, in order to promote general welfare particularly to promote  health and safety, maintain peace and order, and preserve the comfort and convenience of every resident of the city, do hereby order the temporary suspension of the operation of the  Divisoria Night Café, night market and related activities thereat effective on the first week of July 2013, and its existence and operation be evaluated and assessed by a Task Force that is hereby created to conduct a study of the causes of the failures of the operation of the Divisoria Night Café, and the re-conceptualization of its existence into a wholesome family convergence center, including the identification of an appropriate area where such family convergence center may be situated…”

As a resident or a visitor of Cagayan de Oro City, do you really believe that the suspension of Divisoria Night Cafe is for the common good? Tell us what you think.
