While the blessing occurred the day before, the newly renovated Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) Gymnasium has been opened to the public (students) today. It features a new, iron and aluminum-clad design, as compared to the old concrete/wood and boxy setup.
The seating capacity is the same, which makes it look massive especially if filled:
The ceiling is comparably higher than the old Gym design. The orange lines indicate the original roof structure.
Even at 10 am, the fully packed gymnasium is comparatively cooler than the old gym. This is based on the author’s personal experience, as a student here. This is largely due to the reworked ventilation system in place. Airflow was really studied before redesigning this structure, and vents are in place above the roof, on every bleacher level, and on the court. Also, previously occupied by offices, the area below the bleachers were left open for air to circulate.
True to the thrust of improving the technologies the university offers, the gym is fitted with equipment like large LED TVs as flexible scoreboards, fixed overhead projector, and stage lights. The old gym only used light booms installed on the bleachers. The sound system is also completely new, a far cry from the aging and noisy sound in the old gym. Platforms and beams are installed above the stage and the gymnasium roof for easier stage design, things the old batches of students could only dream of.
Stagehands, production companies, basketball leagues, and performers are going to love this new venue. We are TsadaGyud are equally excited to cover more events here. Kudos to the university for finishing and opening this fine addition to Cagayan de Oro’s ever evolving landscape! 🙂
