XU ranks second in Mindanao debate tilt

Sixteen schools all over Mindanao participated in the 27th Mindanao Parliamentary Debate Championship (MPDC) which was held here in Cagayan de Oro last February 23-24, 2013. The event was hosted by Capitol University.

The 27TH MPDC followed the Asian Parliamentary debate format in which each team has three speakers. After a series of debate rounds, two Ateneo schools; The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Team B and the defending champion Xavier University Team A battled for championship which was held last night at Flamengo Hall, Pearlmont Inn.

Xavier University and Ateneo de Zamboanga clashed in a motion “This house believes that human rights should be negotiated rather than universalized.” XU defended the motion while ADZU was the opposition. Both teams had powerful arguments but at the end, Ateneo de Zamboanga emerged as the champion. The best speaker was given to Ruby Jane Calletos of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
