True to its commitment of providing humanitarian services, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro (Mother Club) has joined forces with Nissan Pilipinas in a project called “Golf for a Cause” which is currently happening at Pueblo de Oro Golf Course. The said event is scheduled from February 14-17, 2013.
For the record , the Rotary Club is the only civic club that has built settlement houses for the Sendong victims. Rotary Club Cagayan de Oro President Mar Paano said that the Rotarians are determined to continue their assistance to the victims. To materialize their plan, they came up with “Golf for a Cause” which is a fund raising activity that will build a training center in Indahag Relocation Site that houses 1,700 households that were affected by Typhoon Sendong.
Why training center?
According to Atty. Constantino G. Jaraula, Rotary Club Foundation Chairman, building settlement houses is not enough. There should be livelihood programs as well that would sustain the needs of the victims. The training center would enhance or develop skills and provide value formation that these people could use in building a better community. Such skills could also be used to earn a living.
Why Indahag? Indahag is one of the principal relocation centers in Cagayan de Oro. Yes, there are many relocation sites but the Rotary Club has chosen Indahag because it is not vulnerable to climate change. There are relocation sites that are easily flooded when it rains.
Golf is not just an ordinary game. It is a physical and mental activity. So, it is ideal for those who would like to exercise their mind and body.
